The passage of SB590190 amended the Constitution, and the United States descended into the bowels of chaos through the pursuit of perfect equality. The President became a Dictator and "the fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings." Or at least that's what Abigail Johnson's mother told her.
Welcome to New America States have been merged into seven separate Regions, All Media is a branch of the Government, personal property is seized, the Constitution dismantled, and all Citizens tagged and monitored. Anyone believed to be conspiring against The State will be put to death as a traitor.
Abigail Johnson remembers when these Executive Orders were issued and her life upturned. Working as a Junior Editor at a State Magazine in Denver, she is haunted by the recent death of her mother and memories of attending rebel meetings in her youth. While trying to stay a step ahead of her past, everything will explode. Two former acquaintances reemerge; involving her in what will become the Nation's most critical battle for rights and freedoms to date.
Framed as a Terrorist for the bombing of a building, Abigail is faced with two important decisions to run or to join the fight against Absolute Despotism.

It's rare to find a book that is shaped so drastically by politics which is also able to balance such a strong story line. I started reading, and couldn't manage to put the book down, literally finishing it in a day. My heart broke for the characters. I applaud Brown for writing a book of substance rather than simply trying to sell copies with a reused story-line. In a world where political opinions are shaped by uninformed celebrities, where people are all-consumed with political correctness, and a huge number of our population feel they are entitled to something for nothing, this book was incredibly refreshing. While the world Brown creates is heart-breaking, I also found it to be terrifyingly realistic. I hope that as people read this book they don't think, "Oh, she took it too far," and discount the dire circumstances portrayed. If we don't wake up and make a major change as a nation as a whole, I fear this is an accurate representation of the world we are leaving for our children. We are the generation that needs to fight for our liberties. I say Bravo to Brown! Thank you for such a compelling read.Product details

Absolute Despotism Supremacy Rising Book 1 eBook Holly Brown Reviews
It's been awhile since a book compelled me to read as much as this one. Much like a physical pull. I was always anxious to get back into this book. It's very drawing because it's very real. The strength of Absolute Despotism is by far the plot. It's got a spine of steel and never leaves you wanting. Brown isn't afraid to take her characters through the wringer, and I like that in an author.
Perhaps the most frightening part of this book is the reality behind it. While I'm not the best at following politics and what they mean, I do track the news, and what Brown shows here, as well as what I see on CNN and hear on NPR, are not as far apart as one might think.
One thing about Brown's style that I found most interesting was the smallest details about average American life that a government change like this would have. She clearly knows her politics, and she won't leave you guessing on her views, which is good, I think. She kind of sets it into your backyard and home, in a way, so you can't help but see and feel what's happening. Combined with a solid writing style, and a kind of wit for metaphors, Brown comes up with a book that took me places I didn't expect. Truly. It will change your perceptions, and perhaps the way you trust.
I plan to keep an eye on Brown's work because I see a lot in her as a writer, and, hopefully not, as a forecaster of things to come.
HB has written SyFy novel that delves into the actual fall out American Democracy. The President becomes the American Dictator and writers laws for his profit and starvation for the people. A person may not criticize the government with computers or in open discussions. This is a scary novel. This is an excellent read for the genre.....ER
This book was better than I could've ever imagined! The first two chapters were a little slow for me, however after those first two chapters I was sucked into the world of this book and couldn't put it down until I finished reading it. I don't usually write reviews on books but this one was so good that I felt the need to express how good it was. As many other people have said in reviews, one of the things that makes this book so good and interesting is that this sounds like the type of thing that could actually happen to the world. I will be buying the second book in this series to find out more about this world the author has created. I strongly recommend that anyone looking for a good read to get this book.
This political and emotional thriller is very well written. As someone else said, it's a modern day 1984.
The characters are likeable and relatable. One of the best stories I've read in a while.
It definitely made me think about the current political climate in America. How many freedoms will we sacrifice for a false sense of security?
While the plot could be considered far fetched, the characters evoke enough emotion from the reader that you begin to question faith in humanity. The notion power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely is the heart of this story.
The plot of Absolute Despotism is reminiscent of an updated Ayn Rand novel; while certain events may seem unlikely to occur in our time, an honest evaluation of our current political climate confirms that such a dystopia is not impossibly far off, which is what makes this book so raw and real. Largely dialog-driven, this reader wanted to jump into the book and talk with the characters about their mistakes and motivations. It is definitely a "thinker," which is not to say overly cerebral - the book evokes plenty of emotion and I found it to be by turns frightening, infuriating and crushingly sad. It left me curious to find out what happens, and how the nation further deteriorates, in the next generation, which this book sets up nicely leading into the sequel.
'Absolute Despotism' is one of those rare books that entertains you while making you think. I hate it when you go to read a book like this and it is more of a political tirade rather than an actual story. Or it is more of a ridiculous love story that is all fluff and no facts or emotion other than gooey oggly eyes and tender sloppy kisses. Not so with the story of Absolute Despotism. While I was reading it I couldn't help but think about George Orwell's classic novel '1984.' Now that the time has come and gone and big brother really is watching us, what would it take for our country to fall into an actual dystopian society? This novel follows Abby and Jack through a whirl wind of adventure, they will win over your heart and have you rooting through them and for what America stand for, until the bitter end. I really love reading this book and I can't wait for the next one!! Kudos to Holly Brown for writing such and excellent break through Novel! Read it today, I promise you won't be Disappointed.
